A used Mercedes E-Class in Portugal costs between €20,000 for older W213 models (2016-2023) and over €70,000 for the new W214 generation. The E 220 d from 2019-2021 with 60,000-100,000 km typically costs €30,000-€42,000. The Estate version carries a €2,000-€4,000 premium over the saloon.

The E-Class W213 offers diesel E 200 d (160 hp), E 220 d (194 hp) and E 400 d (340 hp), petrol E 200 (197 hp) and E 300 (258 hp), and the E 300 de/e plug-in hybrid (320 hp) in Portugal. The new W214 exclusively features mild-hybrid and PHEV powertrains. The E 220 d is the best-selling version.

On the W213, common issues include MBUX infotainment failures, AdBlue consumption on diesels, and the 9G-Tronic automatic with occasional hesitations. The OM654 diesel engine may have timing chain issues on 2016-2017 models. The Airmatic air suspension is reliable but expensive to repair.

The E-Class wins on comfort and traditional prestige, the 5 Series on driving dynamics and technology, and the A6 on interior quality and quattro all-wheel drive. All three hold comparable residual values in Portugal. The E-Class has the strongest executive brand image, while the 5 Series attracts more enthusiastic drivers.

The best years are 2020-2023 (W213 facelift) with the mature OM654 diesel, updated MBUX and improved ADAS systems. The E 220 d from this phase is particularly reliable and efficient (5-6 L/100 km). The new W214 (2024+) is technologically superior but used examples are still very expensive.

Real-world E-Class consumption in Portugal is 5.5-7 L/100 km for the E 220 d diesel in mixed driving, 7.5-9.5 L/100 km for the E 200 petrol, and 2-3 L/100 km for the E 300 de PHEV with daily charging. On the motorway, the E 220 d achieves an impressive 5-5.5 L/100 km, among the best in the executive segment.
