Citroën DS5: Sophisticated Luxury Hatchback

The DS5 offered BlueHDi diesel engines in 120 hp and 180 hp outputs, a THP 165 hp petrol, and a pioneering diesel-electric Hybrid4 producing 200 hp with all-wheel drive. The Hybrid4 was one of the first diesel hybrid systems available in the European market.

Used DS5 prices in Portugal range from €8,000 for older 2012–2014 diesel models to €18,000 for late-production 2017–2018 examples in top specification. The Hybrid4 AWD variant is priced similarly to equivalent diesel models, offering premium technology at accessible prices.

On the Hybrid4 model, verify the high-voltage battery condition and that the electric motor engages properly in all driving modes. The EGS6 automated manual gearbox fitted to some variants is known for jerky low-speed operation, so test extensively in traffic conditions.

The DS5 features an aviation-inspired cockpit with overhead toggle switches, a panoramic windscreen, and premium Nappa leather upholstery on higher trims. Its unique design language and comprehensive equipment list positioned it as Citroën's flagship model before the DS brand separated.

The DS5 offers considerably more distinctive design and interior ambiance than the conventional Passat, though it sacrifices some rear passenger space and boot capacity. Compared to the Peugeot 508 of the same era, the DS5 provides a more premium feel but with higher depreciation, making it strong value on the Portuguese used market.
