The Tonale is available with a 1.5 turbo petrol mild-hybrid producing 130 hp or 160 hp, a 1.6 diesel with 130 hp, and a 1.3 turbo plug-in hybrid (Q4 PHEV) delivering 275 hp with all-wheel drive. The PHEV variant includes a 15.5 kWh battery providing up to 69 km of electric range.

Used Tonale prices in Portugal range from €28,000 for early 1.5 mild-hybrid models to €48,000 for the Q4 PHEV in Veloce trim. As a model introduced in 2022, used availability is still developing, but early examples are beginning to offer value compared to new pricing.

The Tonale features Alfa Romeo's signature telescopic instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless connectivity, and NFT-based blockchain vehicle history certification. Its distinctive three-headlight design and muscular proportions set it apart from mainstream compact SUV competitors.

On the PHEV variant, verify the high-voltage battery state of health and ensure the electric motor engages smoothly in all driving modes. Test the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox (on mild-hybrid models) for smooth low-speed operation, and check all driver assistance systems function correctly.

The Tonale offers the most distinctive styling and engaging driving dynamics of the three, with Italian design flair that neither German nor Swedish rivals match. The BMW X1 provides a more spacious interior and wider powertrain range, while the Volvo XC40 leads in safety technology and Scandinavian interior refinement.
