Polestar has rewritten the spec sheet on its fastest model. The 2027 Polestar 4 arrives with a recalibrated chassis, a far simpler range to understand and — a rare thing in this market — list prices that have actually dropped since launch. In the UK it now starts at £56,750, below the £59,990 of 2024. If you're shopping for a premium electric coupe SUV in Portugal, it's worth knowing what changed before you talk to the brand.
There's also a curious detail in the name: the car is now badged Polestar 4 Coupé. It's not just marketing. Spy shots of a wagon variant — with a conventional rear window, unlike this rear-glass-free coupe — suggest Polestar wants to separate body styles down the line.
The big technical change in the Polestar 4 2027 sits under the body. Polestar fitted high-capacity passive dampers, new springs and anti-roll bars, and swapped the internal rebound coil springs for polyurethane rebound stops. The result, the brand says, is "a more controlled ride in all driving conditions with improvements to both agility and comfort."
In plain terms, this targets the two usual complaints about a heavy EV: body roll through corners and suspension thumping over bumps. The steering precision improved too. Crucially, all of this comes standard on the Rear motor and Dual motor versions — it isn't locked behind an expensive pack.
The "Long Range Single Motor" labels are gone. The range now has three powertrain options that are easy to remember:
The trims are still distinguished by detail: all-black seatbelts and rotary controls on the Rear motor, a Swedish gold stripe on the Dual motor, and a full Swedish gold finish on the Performance. Small signals for those who notice.
Above the powertrain, Polestar organised the equipment into two trims. The difference between Polestar 4 Business and Prime comes down to how much luxury and tech you want inside.
| Trim | Headline equipment |
|---|---|
| Business | Pilot Assist, Lane Change Assist, Park Assist, rear privacy glass |
| Prime | Harman Kardon sound, head-up display, illuminated knit door cards, rear control screen, 12-way seats, heated rear bench, tri-zone climate, PM2.5 air purifier, Pixel LED adaptive headlights, foot-operated tailgate, illuminated logo |
Business covers the essentials in driver assistance. Prime is for the Polestar 4 at its best — and that's where the Pixel LED headlights and the audio that earn the premium badge come in.

The mechanical base carries over, and it's strong. The Polestar 4 uses a roughly 100 kWh cell-to-pack battery (102 kWh, 94 kWh usable on the previous spec), with range that reached around 590 km on the WLTP cycle. On rapid charging it accepts up to 200 kW DC — enough to claw back a big chunk of the battery during a coffee stop on a Lisbon-Porto run. AC charging at 22 kW becomes a standalone option.
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Powertrains | Rear motor, Dual motor, Dual motor Performance |
| Power (Dual motor) | up to 400 kW (544 hp) |
| Torque (Performance) | 686 Nm |
| 0-100 km/h (Dual motor) | 3.8 s |
| Battery | around 100 kWh cell-to-pack |
| DC charging | up to 200 kW |
| AC charging | up to 22 kW (option) |
| WLTP range (previous) | up to around 590 km |
| Boot / frunk | 500 L / 15 L |
The 3.8-second 0-100 km/h keeps the Polestar 4 as the brand's quickest model. For daily life, though, it's the mix of real-world range and 200 kW charging that matters more than the stopwatch.
Here honesty is needed: Polestar has not yet published the official MY27 price for Portugal. The confirmed figures are from the UK (£56,750 Rear motor / £63,750 Dual motor), Australia (AUD 78,500 / 86,350) and South Korea. Converting the British list and adding Portuguese VAT, the Rear motor should land somewhere around €65,000 to €70,000, with the Dual motor from about €72,000 and the Performance above that.
The good news for the Portuguese buyer: as a full EV, the Polestar 4 is exempt from ISV (the vehicle registration tax) and the IUC road tax on electrics is symbolic. That's a tax discount that never shows on the price list but weighs heavily on the decision. And there's the trend signal — instead of rising, the launch price fell abroad. If that logic holds in Portugal, the MY27 could come in below what the current Polestar 4 costs today.
The inevitable rival is the Tesla Model Y, Portugal's best-selling EV. The Model Y wins on entry price and the Supercharger network; the Polestar 4 answers with a far more crafted interior, premium materials and a chassis that now drives better. These are cars with different philosophies for similar budgets.
Within Polestar's own house, the comparison is with the Polestar 3. The 3 is the bigger, taller, more family-friendly SUV; the 4 is the lower, faster coupe with that bold design touch — including the missing rear window, replaced by a digital camera. Buyers who need space and height pick the 3; those who want style and performance stay with the 4.
The official Portuguese price is still missing to close the maths, but the direction of the MY27 is clear: Polestar took its most exciting model and made it more grown-up to drive, simpler to buy and, by all signs, more affordable. It's worth watching for the Portugal price announcement over the coming months.
Polestar has not yet published the official MY27 price list for Portugal. As a reference, the current Polestar 4 starts at around 64,900 euros in Rear Motor form and 71,900 euros for the Dual Motor, rising to 82,300 euros at the top of the range. Abroad the MY27 launch price actually fell (to 56,750 pounds in the UK), so the new model is expected to arrive in line with or below today's prices when it reaches Portugal.
The Business trim covers the essentials in driver assistance, with Pilot Assist, Lane Change Assist, Park Assist and rear privacy glass. Prime adds the luxury: Harman Kardon sound, a head-up display, Pixel LED adaptive headlights, tri-zone climate, 12-way seats, a heated rear bench, a rear control screen and a foot-operated tailgate. The choice comes down to how much premium equipment you want inside the car.
The Polestar 4 uses a roughly 100 kWh cell-to-pack battery, with WLTP range up to around 620 km on the Rear Motor and 590 km on the Dual Motor. On rapid charging it accepts up to 200 kW DC, recovering from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes. AC charging at 22 kW is now a standalone option and takes around 5.5 hours for a full charge.
The Rear Motor is rear-wheel drive with a single 272 hp motor, and it is the more affordable version with the longest range (around 620 km WLTP). The Dual Motor brings all-wheel drive, 544 hp and a 0-100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds — the quickest Polestar ever — with the Performance pack reserved for this version. For daily use and savings the Rear Motor is plenty; for performance and AWD traction, the Dual Motor earns its place.
The Tesla Model Y, Portugal's best-selling EV, wins on entry price and the Supercharger network. The Polestar 4 answers with a far more crafted interior, premium materials and, on the MY27, a recalibrated chassis that improves agility and comfort. They are different philosophies for similar budgets: the Tesla leans on efficiency and charging infrastructure, the Polestar on coupe SUV style and cabin refinement.
