Kia EV3 GT, EV4 GT and EV5 GT: what changes in Kia's EV line-up

292 PS, all-wheel drive and 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds — from a compact SUV that looks a lot like the EV3s already common on the streets of Lisbon and Porto. The Kia EV3 GT is part of a trio alongside the EV4 GT and EV5 GT, three performance versions that went on sale in Europe on 7 September 2026. UK orders opened on 1 October, with deliveries due before the end of the year. The question for buyers here is simple: what will the Kia EV3 GT price in Portugal look like, and is it worth it?

First, a common mix-up worth clearing up. These GT models are not the GT-Line cars you'll find in Portuguese showrooms and on the online configurator. They have two motors, a lot more power and their own suspension. An official Portuguese price? Not yet. German pricing, though, gives a solid idea of where they'll land.

GT is not GT-Line: the differences that matter

At Kia, GT-Line is a trim level. It adds sportier bumpers, styling details and some extra kit, but keeps the mechanicals of the regular versions — in the EV3 Long Range's case, a single front motor with 150 kW and 283 Nm. That's the car that shows up when you search for the EV3 GT in Portugal today, and it's the one currently on sale here.

The GT is a different animal. It adds a second motor on the rear axle, raises output to 215 kW (292 PS) and brings a set of hardware tuned for spirited driving:

  • All-wheel drive with two motors and electronic torque vectoring
  • Preview ECS suspension, using a camera that reads the road ahead and adjusts damping in real time
  • Stiffer springs and revised anti-roll bars to reduce body roll
  • Launch control and three stability control settings
  • Virtual Gear Shift: simulates a six-speed gearbox, operated via steering-wheel paddles
  • Active Sound Design, generating sound through eight speakers (including a "coasting" sound above 100 km/h)
  • Normal, Sport and GT driving modes
  • 20" wheels, neon-green brake calipers, semi-bucket seats and a dedicated GT steering wheel

If you only want the sporty look, the GT-Line still makes sense. If you actually want quicker acceleration and a car that's sharper in the corners, the GT is the one.

Power, acceleration and range of the three GT models

All three share the same 81.4 kWh battery and the 400 V version of the E-GMP platform. It's the first time Kia has built a GT on this architecture — the EV6 GT and EV9 GT use the 800 V variant. With these three, the GT family grows to five models.

A note on range figures: some UK press material quotes 334 miles for the EV3 GT, which matches the EV4 GT fastback rather than the EV3. We're using the EU WLTP figures in kilometres above.

Kia EV3 GT range: how much you give up versus the EV3 Long Range

The EV3 GT's 501 km WLTP is the price of that second motor. The front-wheel-drive EV3 Long Range, with the same battery, is rated at close to 600 km. In other words, you trade roughly 100 km of official range for an extra 65 kW and all-wheel drive.

Day to day, that matters less than it sounds. Lisbon to Porto (around 300 km) is still doable in one go, even allowing for the usual gap between WLTP and real motorway range. A same-day Lisbon-Algarve round trip will need a stop — and that's where 31 minutes from 10 to 80% on a fast charger from MOBI.E, Portugal's national public charging network, comes in handy.

Kia EV4 GT: Kia's electric hot hatch

The Kia EV4 GT is the quickest of the three (5.6 s to 100 km/h for the hatchback), and Kia itself pitches it as the most driver-focused, with a lower stance and a more agile feel. It comes in two body styles: the hatchback, with 505 km WLTP, and the fastback, whose slipperier shape stretches range to 537 km — the best figure of the trio.

Its direct rivals are the Cupra Born VZ and the Volkswagen ID.3 GTI. In the UK, the EV4 GT fastback isn't offered at all; on the continent, it is.

Kia EV5 GT: all-wheel drive and 306 PS in a family SUV

The Kia EV5 GT is the biggest and most powerful: 225 kW (306 PS) and 480 Nm. Being heavier and less aerodynamic, it's also the slowest (6.2 s) and has the shortest range, at 476 km WLTP. In return you get the space of a family C-SUV and one handy extra for dog owners: Pet Mode, which keeps the cabin at a comfortable temperature when your pet stays in the car for a few minutes.

At €59,990 in Germany, the EV5 GT is the hardest of the three to justify if you don't value all-wheel drive. But if you need the space and live somewhere with tougher winters — Trás-os-Montes or around Serra da Estrela — four-wheel drive has a practical case, not just a sporty one.

Kia EV3 GT price in Portugal: what to expect

Kia Portugal hasn't announced prices or a launch date for any of the three GT models. We won't make a number up. What we do have are reference prices from markets where the cars are already on sale:

ModelGermanyUnited Kingdom
EV3 GT€53,990£48,695
EV4 GT€57,840£49,345
EV5 GT€59,990£54,295

The German price is the best euro benchmark. Two things affect how it translates to Portugal. First, VAT here is 23% versus 19% in Germany, which tends to push the final price up if Kia keeps the same pre-tax figure. Second, electric cars in Portugal are exempt from ISV (the vehicle registration tax) and from IUC (the annual road tax), so there's none of the tax penalty that combustion cars face. Kia's country-by-country pricing strategy can, of course, shift all of this.

For companies, there's a point in favour: VAT is deductible on electric car purchases up to a set acquisition value, and the final price of these GT models may sit close to that ceiling. Run the numbers with your accountant before assuming it pays off.

When will the Kia EV3 GT arrive in Portugal

European sales started on 7-8 September 2026, with Kia Europe confirming all three models for the continent. There's no official Portuguese date, but with UK deliveries scheduled before year-end, it's reasonable to expect the first cars in Portuguese dealerships between late 2026 and early 2027.

Equipment: what comes as standard on the GT models

In the UK, each GT is sold in a single specification — paint colour is the only option. Standard kit includes heated and ventilated front seats, a head-up display, Harman Kardon audio, 360° cameras and vehicle-to-load (V2L), which lets you power external devices from the battery. The EV3 GT also gets a Performance Timer and dedicated GT displays.

The Portuguese spec may differ, but the "top version, everything included" approach is likely to carry over. The UK warranty is 7 years or 100,000 miles, plus 8 years on the battery; in Portugal Kia usually offers 7 years too, which should help these cars hold their appeal on the used market later on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kia Portugal has not yet announced prices for the EV3 GT, EV4 GT or EV5 GT. The best euro reference is Germany, where the EV3 GT costs €53,990, the EV4 GT €57,840 and the EV5 GT €59,990. Portugal charges 23% VAT versus 19% in Germany, but electric cars are exempt from ISV and IUC, so the final price will depend mainly on Kia's local pricing policy.

European sales of all three GT models started on 7-8 September 2026, and UK orders opened on 1 October with deliveries before the end of the year. There is no official Portuguese date yet, but the first cars are expected at Portuguese dealers between late 2026 and early 2027.

GT-Line is a trim level with sporty styling that keeps the EV3 Long Range's single 150 kW, 283 Nm front motor. The EV3 GT has two motors and all-wheel drive, producing 215 kW (292 PS) and 468 Nm, reaches 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and adds Preview ECS suspension, launch control and Virtual Gear Shift.

On a DC fast charger, the EV3 GT and EV4 GT go from 10 to 80% in about 31 minutes, and the EV5 GT in about 30 minutes. All three use the same 81.4 kWh battery on the 400V version of the E-GMP platform, unlike the EV6 GT and EV9 GT, which use the 800V architecture.

With the same 81.4 kWh battery, the EV3 GT is rated at 501 km WLTP, compared with around 600 km for the front-wheel-drive EV3 Long Range. In exchange for roughly 100 km of range, you get an extra 65 kW, all-wheel drive and sharper suspension. If range and price matter most, the Long Range is the rational choice; if you want performance and AWD traction, the GT makes sense.

Kia EV3 GT or EV4 GT: which one to choose

With identical mechanicals and only a tenth of a second between them, the choice is mostly about body style:

  • EV3 GT — the cheapest (€53,990 in Germany), with a raised driving position and compact SUV shape. Makes sense if you want one car for the family that's still fun to drive.
  • EV4 GT — €3,850 more in Germany, lower and more agile, and the fastback reaches 537 km. This is the trio's true electric hot hatch.
  • EV5 GT — for those who need space and can accept less range and €6,000 more than the EV3 GT.

If range is your priority and you don't need all-wheel drive, the regular EV3 Long Range remains the more rational buy: close to 100 km more WLTP range and a lower price. The GT models are for drivers who want proper driving enjoyment without giving up the efficiency of a 400 V EV.

The next thing to watch is Kia Portugal's official pricing announcement. Until then, the €53,990 asked in Germany is the best reference for the Kia EV3 GT, which will go head to head with the Cupra Born VZ. In the meantime, a used EV3 or EV4 can be a far more affordable option if you don't need 292 PS.
