Geely E5 in Portugal: Price, Range and Specs of the New Electric SUV

Published: 13/05/2026Geely E5 in Portugal: 495 km Electric SUV, 8-Year Warranty

Geely lands in Europe — and the E5 leads the charge

Geely owns Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, Smart and LEVC, but until now it had never sold a car under its own brand in Europe. That just changed. The Geely E5, a compact C-segment electric SUV, is the first model to wear the Geely badge on European roads, with launches confirmed across eight countries between mid-2025 and the first half of 2026. Portugal isn't on the official list yet — but the runway is clearly built.

For anyone shopping a sub-40,000 euro electric SUV, it's worth understanding what Geely is bringing. The E5 takes direct aim at the Skoda Elroq, Kia EV3, VW ID.4, Renault Scenic E-Tech, BYD Atto 3 and Volvo EX30. And it does so with an eight-year warranty.

When will the Geely E5 arrive in Portugal

Geely launched the E5 first in Belgium and the Netherlands in June 2025, followed by the UK in October, then Italy at year-end. In March 2026, the brand ran a 48-hour wave of simultaneous launches across Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. Hungary came online mid-month. France is the next confirmed market — logistics already cover it from Geely's regional parts hub in Amsterdam.

Portugal has no official date yet. But with Spain already operational and Salvador Caetano historically the go-to distributor for Chinese brands here, it's reasonable to expect the E5 in Portuguese dealerships between late 2026 and early 2027. Geely has stated it plans 10 models for the UK alone by 2027, and Portugal rarely sits outside Iberian rollout plans.

Expected price of the Geely E5 in Portugal

In Germany and the Netherlands, the E5 starts at 37,990 euros. UK pricing runs from 31,990 pounds (SE trim) to 38,990 pounds (Max) — with the UK EV grant at launch, the SE briefly dropped to 29,690 pounds.

For Portugal, factoring in the ISV (vehicle tax) exemption for electric cars and typical Chinese-brand pricing patterns in our market, realistic expectations are:

TrimExpected Portugal price
Geely E5 Pure (60.2 kWh)38,000–39,500 €
Geely E5 Plus41,000–43,000 €
Geely E5 Max44,000–46,000 €

These are estimates based on German launch prices and Chinese-brand pricing behaviour in Portugal. Official numbers will depend on the chosen distributor and the EV incentives in force at launch.

Geely E5 specs: what you get

The E5 shares its platform with China's Galaxy E5 and is badged as the EX5 in the UK, Australia and a few other markets — it's the same car. Every European version uses a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor.

The main European battery is the 60.2 kWh pack, good for 495 km WLTP. In mixed real-world use — motorway, city, winter cold — expect 400 to 430 km. Enough for Lisbon to Porto without stopping, or Lisbon to the Algarve with one short top-up.

Charging: 28 minutes for the bulk of the work

The E5 accepts up to 160 kW DC, a strong number for the class. At a typical Portuguese fast charger — IONITY, Pluginn, MIIT — you'll go from 10 to 80% in 28 minutes. On AC, the 11 kW three-phase charging (Europe-only spec) means a full home charge in roughly six hours with a proper wallbox.

V2L at 3.3 kW comes standard, so you can use the car as a power outlet for camping, power tools, or to keep a fridge running during a blackout. A heat pump is standard across all trims — important for preserving range during Portuguese winters.

Equipment and cabin

Coming from European brands, the E5's standard equipment list looks generous. It includes:

  • 15.4-inch central touchscreen running Flyme Auto (7 nm Dragon Eagle-1 chip)
  • Apple CarPlay standard, Android Auto via OTA update
  • Panoramic roof on all trims
  • Powered, heated and ventilated seats (Max)
  • Massage function on front seats (Max)
  • 13.8-inch head-up display (Max)
  • 1,000 W, 16-speaker Flyme audio system (Max)
  • Voice control with over 200 commands

The main criticism from UK reviewers is the heavy reliance on the touchscreen for basic functions — a pattern across most Chinese EVs. Steering was described as "lifeless" and handling as comfortable but uninvolving. This isn't a driver's car. It's a family SUV.

Geely E5 vs BYD Atto 3 and other rivals

The Atto 3 is the most direct Chinese rival, and the E5 attacks it on nearly every front:

Base price (Germany)37,990 €38,990 €

The E5 wins clearly on faster charging (160 vs 88 kW), longer range and longer warranty. The Atto 3 holds the lead on established Portuguese service network and brand familiarity here.

Against European rivals the gap closes. The Skoda Elroq 60 delivers around 400 km WLTP from about 36,000 euros in Portugal — it beats the E5 on driving feel and dealer network, loses on standard equipment and warranty length. The Kia EV3 matches range and brings a more polished ADAS suite.

Warranty and aftersales: Geely's strongest card

Geely quotes 8 years or 200,000 km whole-car warranty (including battery) for continental Europe. That's among the most generous packages in the segment — only Hyundai and Kia offer something comparable. The UK runs a slightly different scheme: 6 years / 125,000 miles on the car, 8 years / 125,000 miles on the battery, plus 4 years of roadside assistance and 2 years of free servicing.

Exact Portuguese terms will depend on the local importer. But Geely's track record with Volvo (under group ownership since 2010) suggests aftersales is taken seriously. The European dealer network already exceeds 100 outlets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Geely has not yet announced an official date for Portugal. The brand launched the E5 in eight European markets between June 2025 and March 2026, including Spain in March 2026, but Portugal is not on the official list. Given proximity to the Spanish market and Salvador Caetano's track record distributing Chinese brands, it is reasonable to expect the E5 in Portuguese dealers between late 2026 and early 2027.

The main European version uses the 60.2 kWh battery, rated at 495 km WLTP (Geely Germany advertises 475 km). In mixed real-world driving (highway, city, winter conditions) expect 400 to 430 km, enough for Lisbon-Porto without stops or Lisbon-Algarve with one short charge en route. The standard heat pump helps preserve range in colder months.

Portuguese pricing has not been announced yet. The E5 starts at EUR 37,990 in Germany and the Netherlands, and ranges from GBP 31,990 to GBP 38,990 in the UK depending on trim. For Portugal, with the full ISV exemption on EVs, a range between EUR 38,000 and EUR 46,000 is realistic depending on Pure, Plus or Max trim and the incentives in place at launch.

The E5 beats the Atto 3 on key metrics: 160 kW DC charging versus 88 kW, 495 km WLTP range versus 420 km, and 8 years of warranty versus 6. European base prices are nearly identical (EUR 37,990 vs EUR 38,990). The Atto 3 retains an advantage in its already-established service network in Portugal and a brand image tested locally since 2023.

As a pure EV, the Geely E5 qualifies for full ISV (vehicle registration tax) exemption and reduced IUC (annual road tax — only the environmental component, currently zero for EVs). Companies can deduct VAT on the purchase up to the legal cap and depreciate the vehicle at the higher rate. These incentives can cut total cost of ownership by several thousand euros compared with a combustion equivalent.

Is the Geely E5 worth waiting for

If you're actively buying an electric SUV under 40,000 euros right now, the BYD Atto 3, Skoda Elroq and Kia EV3 are already in Portuguese showrooms and can be driven tomorrow. The E5 has no confirmed Portugal date.

But if you can wait until 2027, it's worth tracking the next announcements from Salvador Caetano and Geely Auto directly. The package — 495 km of range, 160 kW fast charging, 8-year warranty and an entry price below most direct European rivals — puts the E5 in a strong position for our market. The open question is whether Cd 0.269 and a standard heat pump translate into competitive real-world consumption on Portuguese motorways, where the segment normally falls apart.
