Cupra Tavascan 58 kWh: the entry version that lowers the bar

Under 40,000. That's the figure Cupra wanted next to the Tavascan, and a new entry-level version gets it there: a 140 kW (190 PS) motor, a 58 kWh LFP battery and up to 441 km of WLTP range. In the UK it has just launched as the Tavascan Origin from £39,995, and in the Netherlands it already lists at €39,990. If you're tracking the Cupra Tavascan price in Portugal, this is the version to watch.

One catch: Cupra hasn't published an official Portuguese price for the 58 kWh Tavascan yet. We won't make one up. Instead, here's what it costs in neighbouring markets, what changes compared with the 77 kWh versions, and how it stacks up against rivals you can already buy here.

What the new entry-level Tavascan brings

The recipe is simple: a smaller battery, less power, a lower price. The motor is Volkswagen Group's new APP350, mounted on the rear axle, with 140 kW (190 PS) and 350 Nm. Ford uses the same unit in its electric Explorer.

The battery chemistry changes too. Instead of the NMC cells in the 77 kWh versions, the entry Tavascan uses LFP (lithium iron phosphate), with 58 kWh usable and 61 kWh gross. LFP packs are cheaper, happily take regular charges to 100% and degrade slowly. The trade-off: less energy per kilo and lower peak charging power.

Performance is respectable for the class: 0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds and a 160 km/h top speed. It won't feel sporty, but it won't struggle on a motorway slip road either.

Cupra Tavascan range: 441 km on paper, around 345 km on the road

Cupra quotes up to 441 km WLTP (some markets list 435 km). EV Database, which estimates real-world consumption, puts mixed-use range at 345 km — a more useful number for planning your week.

ConditionsCityMotorway (110 km/h)Combined
Mild (23 °C, no A/C)500 km320 km395 km
Cold (-10 °C, heating on)330 km245 km290 km

What this means in Portugal: the mild climate works in your favour, and in town you'll have range to spare. A Lisbon-Porto run on the A1, roughly 300 km at motorway pace, is borderline — plan on one short stop, especially if you cruise above 110 km/h. For daily commuting around Greater Lisbon or Porto, most drivers will get by with one charge a week.

Cupra Tavascan charging time: 105 kW DC and 26 minutes from 10 to 80%

This is where the gap to the bigger versions shows. Peak DC power drops from 135 kW to 105 kW, but because the battery is smaller, 10-80% still takes 26 minutes. In practice, a coffee stop at an A1 or A2 service area adds around 200 km.

At home or at work, the onboard charger takes 11 kW on three-phase AC: 0-100% in 6h15. On a 7.4 kW single-phase wallbox, expect 9h15 — comfortably overnight. The Tavascan also supports Plug and Charge and automatic battery preconditioning when you set a charger as your navigation destination, which helps at fast chargers on MOBI.E, Portugal's national public charging network.

Tavascan 2026: what changes across the range

The 58 kWh version arrives with the facelift unveiled in March 2026, which changed more inside than out:

  • 10.25" digital instrument cluster (up from 5.3")
  • 15" central touchscreen running an Android-based system
  • Redesigned steering wheel with physical buttons instead of touch controls
  • Mobile Device Key: your smartphone works as the key, shareable with up to four people
  • V2L for powering appliances from the car's battery
  • Travel Assist 3.0 with cloud data, remote parking and a 360° camera
  • New Dark Void paint

The physical-button wheel deserves a mention. It fixes one of the most common complaints about the original Tavascan and other MEB models.

On the UK entry trim, standard kit includes 19" alloys, heated front seats, a rear camera and both new screens. The Spanish spec adds full LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors and automatic climate control. The 77 kWh versions stay on sale: the Endurance with 210 kW and rear-wheel drive (up to 557 km WLTP) and the VZ with 250 kW and all-wheel drive (0-100 km/h in 5.5 s).

Cupra Tavascan price in Portugal: what we know so far

With no official Portuguese price for the 58 kWh version, nearby markets are the best guide. When the Tavascan launched in Portugal in 2024, only with the 77 kWh battery, it was announced from €50,410 — the new version slots in below that.

Reference prices across Europe

MarketVersionPrice
Spain140 kW 58 kWh (list price)€42,530
Spain140 kW 58 kWh (with brand discounts)€34,830
Spain140 kW 58 kWh (with discounts and Plan Auto+ aid)€31,455
Netherlands140 kW 58 kWh€39,990
Germany140 kW 58 kWh€49,900
United KingdomOrigin 58 kWh£39,995

Spain is the closest reference, not least because of Cupra's Iberian logistics. Still, don't convert directly: VAT in Portugal is 23% (21% in Spain), dealer campaigns differ and Plan Auto+ is a Spain-only incentive. The gap between the Dutch €39,990 and the German €49,900 shows how much the same car's price can vary from country to country.

In the UK, Cupra also cut prices on the 77 kWh versions: the V1 dropped £1,600 to £45,750, the VZ £1,060 to £54,930 and the VZ Extreme £1,005 to £59,830. If that trend reaches Portugal, buyers of the bigger-battery Tavascan could benefit too.

When does the Cupra Tavascan 58 kWh arrive in Portugal

Orders in Spain opened in June 2026, with first European deliveries planned for after the summer. It's reasonable to expect the 58 kWh Tavascan in Portuguese showrooms in the coming months, but the official date and price haven't been announced. Your nearest Cupra dealer is the best place to ask.

Taxes and incentives

Like any EV, the Tavascan is exempt from ISV (Portugal's vehicle registration tax) and IUC (the annual road tax). For companies, EVs with an acquisition cost up to €62,500 pay no autonomous taxation and allow VAT recovery — a threshold the 58 kWh version clears easily. Fundo Ambiental incentives for private buyers change every year, so check the current terms before running the numbers.

Tavascan 58 kWh vs 77 kWh: which to choose

Spain price (with discounts)€34,830€44,260 (Black Edition)

If you mostly drive in and around town and can charge at home, the 58 kWh version makes more sense: it saves close to €10,000 (on the Spanish reference) and the LFP battery copes well with daily charges to 100%. If you regularly do Lisbon-Algarve or Lisbon-Porto, the extra 116 km of WLTP range and faster charging on the 77 kWh version justify the difference.

Cupra Tavascan vs Skoda Enyaq Coupé and VW ID.5

All three share the MEB platform, so the choice comes down to style, equipment and price more than technology. The prices below are Spanish, published by Motor.es in May 2026, and work as a relative comparison.

ModelSpain priceRange / max power
Cupra Tavascan 58 kWh€42,530up to 441 km
Skoda Enyaq Coupé€42,726up to 340 PS
Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron€44,901up to 532 km
Volkswagen ID.5€47,998up to 556 km
Nissan Ariya€48,415up to 536 km

The entry Tavascan becomes the cheapest electric SUV coupé in this group, if only just ahead of the Enyaq Coupé. Rivals offer more range in their top versions, but they cost more too. The Tavascan plays on bolder styling and a sportier cabin.

Built in China: what it means for buyers

The Tavascan is built at Volkswagen's Anting plant in China. Until February 2026 it paid the EU's countervailing tariffs on Chinese-built EVs. Since then, a minimum-price agreement with the European Commission has replaced those tariffs, which helps explain the room for a cheaper version and the price cuts in other markets.

For buyers, the origin changes nothing on warranty or servicing: the network is Cupra's, and the battery is covered for 8 years or 160,000 km.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cupra has not yet published an official Portuguese price for the 58 kWh version. Spain is the closest benchmark at €42,530 list (€34,830 with brand discounts), though VAT in Portugal is 23% versus 21% in Spain. For context, the Tavascan launched in Portugal in 2024 from €50,410 with the 77 kWh battery only, so the new entry version should land well below that.

Official range is up to 441 km WLTP, but EV Database estimates around 345 km in mixed driving. In mild weather that means roughly 500 km in town and 320 km on the motorway at 110 km/h, dropping to about 245 km on the motorway in cold conditions (-10 °C). Portugal's mild climate works in its favour, especially for urban use.

On a DC fast charger it peaks at 105 kW, taking around 26 minutes from 10 to 80%. At home, a three-phase 11 kW wallbox charges it from 0 to 100% in about 6h15, while a single-phase 7.4 kW unit takes about 9h15. The LFP battery is happy to be charged to 100% regularly, unlike the NMC packs in the 77 kWh versions.

The 58 kWh version (140 kW, LFP) suits drivers who mostly cover urban and suburban miles and can charge at home: in Spain it costs €34,830 with discounts, almost €10,000 less than the 77 kWh Black Edition (€44,260). The 77 kWh Endurance (210 kW, NMC) offers up to 557 km WLTP, 116 km more, plus DC charging up to 135 kW, which pays off for regular Lisbon-Porto or Lisbon-Algarve trips. Both share the same 540-litre boot.

As a fully electric car, the Tavascan is exempt from ISV (registration tax) and IUC (annual road tax). Companies pay no autonomous taxation and can recover VAT on EVs costing up to €62,500, a threshold the 58 kWh version clears comfortably. Fundo Ambiental incentives for private buyers change every year, so check the current terms before buying.

The 58 kWh Tavascan is the cheapest way into a Cupra SUV coupé, with real-world range around 345 km and charging that handles the occasional long trip. Until a Portuguese price is out, treat the Spanish €42,530 as the list-price benchmark and the Dutch €39,990 as a sign of what's possible — and keep an eye on launch campaigns, which tend to make the real difference in the first few months.
