Audi has recently confirmed the launch of the A2 e-tron, a new electric model set to revolutionize the compact car segment. Positioned below the Q4 e-tron, this model will be produced at the main Ingolstadt plant and is set for a world premiere in autumn 2026.
The A2 e-tron directly addresses the urban European consumers' needs for electric mobility. Audi revealed that this model will be fully electric, in the compact class, aiming to facilitate access to premium electric mobility.
"The A2 e-tron, manufactured in Ingolstadt, will rejuvenate Audi’s model range and pave the way for premium electric mobility," Audi announced at its annual conference.
Although Audi has not yet released specific details about the drivetrain, the A2 e-tron is expected to utilize the MEB platform, widely used in Volkswagen Group's electric vehicles. This platform can support batteries up to 79 kWh, delivering up to 210 kW of power and 545 Nm of torque in rear-wheel-drive models.
The A2 e-tron emerges as a premium alternative to the Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born, which also utilize the MEB platform. While the ID.3 and Born do not offer all-wheel drive, the A2 e-tron might surprise by introducing this option in the compact segment.
The A2 e-tron is expected to have a base price between EUR 22,000 and 25,000 in Europe, translating to approximately EUR 23,000 to 26,000 in the Portuguese market due to VAT differences. This price range makes the A2 e-tron an attractive option for those seeking an affordable premium electric car.
The launch of the A2 e-tron is particularly relevant to the Portuguese market, where the demand for compact electric vehicles in metropolitan areas is growing. This model will not only strengthen Audi’s presence in the electric segment but also offer a sustainable and efficient mobility option for Portuguese consumers.
The Audi A2 e-tron is expected to have a base price between €30,000 and €36,000 in Portugal, depending on the version and trim level. In Europe, the starting price is estimated at around €30,000 (approximately €36,000 in Germany). With Portugal's 23% VAT and import costs, the final price may be higher than the initially suggested €22,000-25,000 range. Nevertheless, it will be the most affordable electric model in the Audi lineup.
The Audi A2 e-tron will be built on the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform and will be available with two battery options: 58 kWh and 79 kWh. The entry-level version will offer around 426 km of WLTP range, while the long-range version could reach up to 600 km. DC fast charging will support up to 200 kW, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 28-30 minutes. Maximum power output could reach 210 kW (286 hp) with 545 Nm of torque in rear-wheel-drive versions.
The Audi A2 e-tron, VW ID.2, and Škoda Epiq all share the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform but target different market segments. The Škoda Epiq will be the most affordable option, with an estimated price starting at €25,000 and around 425 km of range. The VW ID.2 sits in the middle segment. The A2 e-tron will be the premium choice of the trio, featuring superior finishes, more technology, and up to 600 km of range with the larger battery, justifying its higher price with the Audi brand experience.
Audi has confirmed the A2 e-tron's world premiere for autumn 2026, with production at the Ingolstadt factory in Germany. The model is expected to arrive in the Portuguese market between late 2026 and early 2027, depending on production rates and unit allocation for the Iberian market. Potential buyers can follow updates through official Audi dealerships in Portugal.
Audi is present in Portugal through the official dealer network of the SIVA Group (Sociedade de Importação de Veículos Automóveis). Major Audi dealerships are located in Lisbon, Porto, Braga, Coimbra, Faro, and other district capitals. When the A2 e-tron becomes available, it can be configured and ordered directly at dealerships or through the official Audi Portugal website. In the meantime, you can explore the current range of electric Audis on the Portuguese market at automar.pt.
The Audi A2 e-tron promises to be an exciting addition to Audi’s electric portfolio, combining efficiency, modern design, and affordability. With its arrival expected in 2026, potential Portuguese buyers should keep an eye on this model, representing a significant step forward in the transition to electric mobility.
